In 1990 the Society developed its Mission Statement as follows:family1

"The Rape Crisis Society is established to address the issues
of Sexual and Domestic Violence, particularly as they impact
on the most vulnerable members of society, through
counseling and public education. The Rape Crisis Society is a
focal point for active work towards change in all areas
affecting these issues".

Welcome to our New Website!

Since 1984, the Rape Crisis Society, a non governmental organisation, was formed to address sexual and domestic violence. Since inception it has grown, and now hosts a variety of other programs to support the needs of families and develop strong members of society.

  • Our Values and Beliefs

The Rape Crisis Society is non-judgemental and does not subscribe to biases based on race, class, culture, gender, religion or sexual orientation.

It opposes the objectification and degradation of women as practiced in certain forms of entertainment through the mass media and through advertising.

The Rape Crisis Society recognises that abortion is not legal in Trinidad & Tobago and endeavours to provide counselling on the psychological, legal and medical consequences of abortion while conceding that it is a personal decision.

We endeavour to respond to any requests for its assistance, however, the personal safety of its staff and members are paramount.

It retains in the strictest confidence the information it possess about clients.

The Rape Crisis Society intends to continue to provide the unique service of counselling survivors and perpetrators and lobbying for social change. The ultimate aim is to empower survivors, its members and staff by instilling values of self-help and self-determination.

The Society recognizes the right to self-determination of individuals.
